The truth of the matter

These deities have been wronged for countless years, and I would very much like to try setting some of the records straight.

The concept of "abduction" stemmed from a type of wedding ceremony called "klepsigamia" (Stolen Bride wedding) which was commonplace to the era, and the word "rape" is a tragic and horrible misinterpretation of this. As is shown clearly in ancient story and art, these deities were loving to one another, they ruled equally where so many couples did not, and were the focal point of the longest lasting and most profound temple-cult in all of ancient Greece. With all that in mind, how can there not be so much more to the story than the modern "Rape of Persephone"?

NOTE: As this is part of the "MYTHeology" section, see here for the meaning of the word.
