What does "hexxennea" actually mean?
*
My site was originally
hexxennea [dot] com,
but
I stupidly let the rights to the domain name run out and some other dillweed
nabbed it before I managed to get it back (and so far it doesn't look like
I'm gonna be able to, damn it). So, meanwhile, I'm using a co.uk,
which is acceptable because I am also an Anglophile.
Anyway... the
meaning of the word. I created this semi-portmanteau in 2001, to
mean something special just for me (thus it somewhat annoys me that a stranger
is using it too...)
"Hex"
is Greek for
six (6). "Ennea"
is Greek
for nine (9). The extra "X"
between the two words is the mathematical
"times" sign.
Therefore, the word means:
"What do you get when you
multiply six by nine?"
For those who know the works of Douglas Adams, you
obviously get the idea. For those who don't ... well, you should read
his works. They're worth it.
I originally wanted to call my website 42, or forty-two, or some
variation of the number itself, but everything was already taken.
Anything relating to six and nine were also taken, for reasons I need not
detail, har-har. But since the contents of my site are really what my life is like,
using something similar to 42 was important.
So, being the lover of Greek that I am (take that whatever way you choose),
I found the right combination of words and multiplied those. I like to think
I'm clever sometimes. Don't know if this was one of those moments, but it
still makes me happy.
