This page contains adult material such as cursing, violence, sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. You know, just like real life in a band. If you can't handle it, better seek a quieter venue.

Know what I love best about Cheap Trick? I got to write and draw vicious, sadistic, often obscene things about them, for nearly a decade. And they LET me, even encouraged me to continue. And collected my work. And treated me pretty nicely. How many famous people do you know who would do that? Rare birds, indeed.

Though I would hardly consider myself a close friend of the band, you could mention "Merlin the cartoonist" and they'll know who you mean. Pretty darn cool, just for being an artist of ill-repute.

Also -- there are several references to "The Fire of '89" on this page, and it may be helpful to know more about that. It's a reasonably important factoid, especially with regard to CT.

▀  MISCELLANEOUS ART
Just a bunch of stuff, dating from 1985 to 1994. The band has some of it.

▀  CONCEPT & ROUGH ART
You're lucky I let this crap see the light of day.

COMIC BOOKS

▀  THE 69TH BOOTLEG TAPE (Cheap Trick Live In Paradise) Ø
(art: anthony - script: anthony / hollingsworth - 1985)  Single page jokes, fairly tame and a little lame, and truly crappy artwork. The band faces fans, hotel personnel, interviewers, and bar bouncers. Also introduces the first three Cheap Chicks -- Candy, Claire and Caroline. Blame the band for such a ready made idea for Mary Sues.
▀  LIQUOR FRONT, POKER BACK (An Album of Petty Perversions) (T+)
(art: anthony- script: anthony / holllingsworth - 1988)  Single page jokes, slightly more risqué this time. The band deals with aggressive groupies, interviews, potential arrest, and some rather stupid ideas. Included are liquor in the front, poker in the back, and an advertisement in the middle.

▀  DREAM POLICE, SIDES 3 & 4 (What You Saved Your $12.95 For) - Part 1  Ø (ADULT)
(art: anthony - script: anthony / hollingsworth - 1989)  A 30 PAGE monstrosity of madness. The Dream Police, it seems, are real, and out of boredom they begin taking Cheap Trick's places one-by-one, with insane results.
DREAM POLICE, SIDES 3 & 4 (What You Saved Your $12.95 For) - Part 2  (ADULT)
(art: anthony - script: anthony / hollingsworth - 1990)  A 44 PAGE blight upon humanity. Cheap Trick are all trapped in jail, the Dream Police must perform a concert or lose their cover, and a review of that concert incites a long-overdue jailbreak.
▀  4 & 1/2 - A Small Sampler of Things Witnessed or Overheard, Concerning Life on the Road with You-Know-Who (Poetic License #6969)
Very short, and pretty much what the excessively long title says. Fans, hotels, purchases, and phone calls. One page per band member. And all true.

Ø Thanks much to Rick for providing replacements, as the originals were lost in the fire of '89.
